Silhouetted Lion Fountain Albaicin Winter Evening
Ground fog pools low across the damp stone pavement of a courtyard beside a tidal inlet near Albaicin, Granada, during early winter. The iconic Lion Fountain stands as a stark black silhouette against the softening twilight sky, its twelve sculpted lions barely visible in the deep shadow. Delicate arabesque patterns on the surrounding arches dissolve into the darkness, their intricate geometry hinted at only by the faintest relief against the black forms. Above, the city of Granada begins to glow with scattered amber lights that reflect off the misty water of the inlet. The air holds a fragile stillness as the fog rests on the ancient masonry, softening the hard edges of the stone. One beam of streetlight catches the wet rim of a fountain basin, creating a thin, glowing arc of reflected gold against the encroaching night.
