Rain-slicked pavement reflects the amber glow of a streetlamp illuminating a narrow alleyway in Toronto’s Chinatown. A red double-decker bus passes in the blurred background, its lights streaking across the wet asphalt. In the foreground, a small vendor stall is shuttered for the night, its metal roll-down door secured by a heavy iron deadbolt that catches one drop of water.
