Bright late morning light floods the interior of a cluttered second-hand shop in Christchurch, illuminating a chaotic stack of used items near the front window. A faded, floral-patterned armchair sits slightly askew on the worn floorboards, its velvet upholstery catching the harsh sunlight. Draped over the backrest is a heavy, hand-knitted quilt with intricate geometric stitching in muted reds and blues, against the smooth, curved metal of a nearby stair rail visible through the glass door. Outside, the vibrant pink blooms of bougainvillea spill over a low brick wall, their color reflecting softly onto the shop’s glass facade.
