Shaking Doormat in Hobart

A wet granite kerb in Salamanca Place reflects the grey winter sky, anchoring a scene of damp urban life. A woman in a thick wool cardigan stands by a weathered timber door, pressing a dark rubber doormat against the stone step to shake off melting snow. Her breath hangs in the cold air as she pauses, glancing toward the harbor where grey water laps against the hulls of small boats. The rough texture of the masonry contrasts with the slick, rain-slicked pavement, while the muted tones of her clothing blend with the overcast surroundings. A few scattered leaves rest on the wet stone, showing the chill of the Tasmanian midday.
