The low morning sun slants through the lattice of a weathered wooden jali window in North Kolkata, casting sharp, geometric shadows across a dusty, sun-bleached counter where a local baker tends to a row of cooling steel trays. A young boy in a faded yellow shirt balances a stack of warm, golden parathas on a chipped ceramic plate, his bare feet resting on the cool, tiled floor while steam rises in thin, translucent ribbons into the hazy air. Behind him, shelves lined with glass jars of spices and sacks of flour create a textured backdrop, while a stray cat stretches lazily near the entrance, basking in the first warm rays that spill onto the street outside.
