Senegalese Thieboudienne Charcoal Pot Diner

Thick steam rises from the vessel, curling upward into the dim air. Inside, reddish-orange tomato sauce coats chunks of white fish and grains of rice, resting beside bright orange carrots and pale yellow yam pieces. The rough, porous texture of the clay pot contrasts with the smooth, slightly scratched surface of the table. Behind the meal, a window reveals the soft, cool blue glow of city lights beginning to fade into the evening. A thin trail of gray smoke drifts sideways from the charcoal beneath the pot.
