Rain-slicked asphalt in Sapporo’s Susukino district reflects the neon glow of izakaya signs as a street vendor secures his cart under a corrugated metal awning. In the immediate foreground, a pair of weathered leather tool aprons hangs from a rusted hook, their pockets heavy with the tools of the trade, while a pair of kitchen tongs rests on a wet wooden crate nearby.
