Securing Blanket in Los Angeles

Under the deep indigo wash of a Los Angeles blue hour, a corner laundromat window glows with harsh fluorescent light, spilling onto the wet pavement where a faded red picnic blanket is spread out by a young family. The father, laughing, uses a metal clothespin to secure a corner against the breeze while a toddler reaches for a plastic bag of zinnias from a nearby bodega display. Inside the glass, a sewing machine sits idle next to a stack of cassette tapes, their labels faded, while a wrench rests on a nearby workbench, hinting at the mixed-use nature of the space.
