Rain-slicked Street in Dakar

Rain slicks the reddish laterite dust of a Dakar street as dusk settles, turning the air a heavy indigo. In the mid-ground, a metal rolling cart loaded with plastic crates sits abandoned near a corrugated iron shutter, its surface beading with fresh water. Beyond it, the flat horizon of the Atlantic Ocean meets a bruised sky, visible through the gaps between weathered concrete buildings. A lone figure in a yellow rain poncho walks past, their reflection distorted in a puddle of oily water near the cart’s wheels.
