Quebec City Morning Tramway Gondola Above Fog and Urban Architecture

by Jenny Allison

The Funicular du Petit-Champlain ascends steeply through a dense layer of morning fog, its glass gondola reflecting the gray sky and wet cobblestones below. First light filters weakly through the mist, illuminating the historic stone facades of the Lower Town buildings that line the narrow street. Pedestrians in heavy winter coats hurry along the sidewalk, their breath visible in the cold air. The tram cables stretch taut against the overcast backdrop, connecting the lower historic district to the upper city. The verticality of the terrain and the quiet movement of daily life as the fog begins to lift slightly, revealing more of the textured urban landscape.
