In the deep predawn darkness of Nairobi, Kenya, a railway viaduct with sturdy arches curves across the valley floor, its concrete pillars looming over the quiet streets below. A passing train illuminates the undercroft with a brief, harsh glare, casting long shadows on the damp ground. Beneath the viaduct arch undercroft, ferns grow in the crevices of the stone, dripping moisture onto the earth. Local residents move through the dim light, some carrying goods, their faces barely visible in the low light. The raw, industrial beauty of the city before the day begins, with the train's movement adding a dynamic element to the otherwise still and dark environment.
