The cool stillness before sunrise casts a deep blue hue over the Charleston harbor, where the water remains flat and glassy against the wooden pilings of the old pier. A small workboat is tied securely to the dock, its hull reflecting the faint ambient light from the distant city skyline. The drawbridge spans the channel in the background, its bascule span paused in the open position against the darkening sky. Twine fibers on the rail near the camera frame suggest recent activity from local fishermen securing their gear. The quiet, pre-dawn rhythm of the port, with no people visible, only the enduring structures of the historic waterfront and the calm, motionless water waiting for the day to begin.
