Pre-dawn Fez street scene with dates and traditional clay pots in Morocco

by Micheal Mack

Before dawn breaks over Fez, a narrow alleyway in the medina is lit by the soft glow of a single streetlamp. A local vendor arranges a wooden crate filled with fresh dates, their skins glistening slightly in the cool morning air. Next to the crate, a stack of small, unglazed clay pots sits ready for the day’s tea service. The vendor, wrapped in a wool djellaba, smiles warmly as he adjusts the display, his breath visible in the chill. The stone walls of the surrounding buildings are textured and aged, leading the eye down the quiet, empty lane where the first hints of light begin to touch the zellij tilework of a nearby doorway.
