High altitude winter noon light strikes the red brick facade of a traditional La Paz home, illuminating a narrow balcony where laundry hangs in stark contrast to the deep blue sky. A green plastic shirt hanger holds a white cotton towel, its fibers catching the harsh, thin air sunlight while casting sharp, geometric shadows across the textured wall below. On the ledge, a small cluster of postcards lies scattered near a faded wooden door latch, their glossy surfaces reflecting the bright ambient light. The verticality of the city, with distant snow-capped peaks of the Illimani range visible through the clear, dry air, at the base of the domestic clutter in the vast, high-altitude landscape.
