Bright late morning light floods the open-air void deck of a Singaporean HDB block, casting sharp, geometric shadows across the polished terrazzo floor. A group of elderly men in singlets and cargo shorts sit on low plastic stools, engaged in a spirited game of Chinese chess. Their attention is fixed on the board, while a pair of worn rubber slippers rests casually near the edge of the frame, kicked off for comfort. A plastic bag of local snacks and a half-empty bottle of mineral water sit on the low concrete bench beside them.
