Rain-slicked cobblestones in the French Quarter reflect the pale, diffused light of early morning, with water pooling in the grooves between the irregular stones. A wrought-iron balcony casts long, sharp shadows across the wet pavement, its intricate scrollwork against the rough, damp texture of the limestone walls. One pigeon stands near a drainage grate, its feathers ruffled by the damp air, while a faded green awning drips steadily onto the sidewalk below. The scene is quiet, with no pedestrians, only the subtle movement of water sliding down the aged brick and the stillness of the city waking up. The light is soft, showing the sheen on the stone and the muted colors of the historic architecture.
