Photography 1970s in Kyoto at Midnight Light

by Tariq Correa

A narrow alleyway in Kyoto glows under the harsh yellow sodium vapor of a streetlamp at midnight. A wooden broom leans against the rough stucco wall of a traditional machiya house, its bristles worn from use. The light reflects sharply off a pane of glass in a nearby window, creating a stark glare that cuts through the darkness. One fluorescent sign buzzes faintly in the background, casting long, distorted shadows across the cobblestones. The quiet, lived-in reality of the city after hours, with no people present, only the silent architecture and the tools of daily maintenance left in the wake of the night.
