A candid street view in Perth shows the predawn darkness before the city fully wakes. The wet asphalt of a central business district road reflects the faint glow of distant streetlamps and the headlights of a lone taxi moving through the mist. Sidewalks are empty, save for a discarded newspaper blowing against a tram stop shelter. The air is thick with morning fog, obscuring the tops of nearby office buildings. A few shop shutters are down, their metal surfaces slick with condensation.
