Patchwork Pillows in Copenhagen
by Earl Mays
Sunlight cuts sharply across the wet cobblestones of a narrow alley in Copenhagen, illuminating a cluster of weathered metal stools tucked against a brick wall. A faded red mailbox, dented and scratched from years of use, stands beside a stack of colorful patchwork pillows left on a low step, their geometric patterns vibrant against the gray stone. Thin scratches mar the surface of a nearby wooden table, evidence of countless meals and conversations. The scene is still, save for the gentle movement of a sun hat resting atop a pile of mail, its brim casting a soft shadow. The clear afternoon light highlights the textures of damp concrete and worn fabric, creating a quiet moment of urban life.
