Passing Traffic in Nairobi in in Nairobi, Kenya

Passing Traffic in Nairobi

by Eva Castro

Rain-slicked asphalt in Nairobi’s Westlands district reflects the cool, diffused light of early morning, creating a mirror-like surface beneath the tires of a passing matatu. A street vendor’s stall, sheltered by a faded blue tarp, stands damp and heavy with water, its plastic stools stacked neatly against the wall. Steam rises faintly from a metal pot of boiling tea, against the wet chill in the air. Pedestrians hurry past with umbrellas tucked under their arms, their shoes splashing lightly in the puddles. The immediate aftermath of a downpour, with the city’s vibrant colors muted by the grey sky and the glossy sheen of wet pavement, showing the rhythm of daily life resuming after the storm.
