A Papillon stands alert beside a weathered ochre courtyard wall in Djibouti, its butterfly ears perked against the bright midday sky. Sunlight catches the fine, silky texture of its coat, highlighting the delicate white and sable markings along the muzzle and chest. The dog's dark eyes reflect the intensity of the clear daylight, while a few dry leaves skitter across the dusty ground near the base of the wall. Positioned slightly off-center at the edge of the frame, the animal looks past the camera with an expression of quiet curiosity. The rough plaster surface behind it shows subtle cracks and faded paint, at the base of the portrait in a lived-in environment rather than a sterile studio. A brass door knocker on a nearby shutter catches a sharp glint of light.
