A vendor in a gray hoodie leans against the peeling lime-green shutter of a closed bakery on a quiet Valencia street, his hands wrapped around a steaming paper cup. The cool early morning light is flat and diffuse, reflecting off the damp cobblestones where a small white dog sits patiently beside his feet, ignoring the chill. On the counter behind him, a single potted geranium with vibrant red blooms pushes through a crack in the concrete, its glossy leaves against the rough, stained plaster. A worn broom rests against the wall, its bristles splayed on the wet ground, while a faded blue plastic crate holds empty cardboard boxes.
