Frost coats the rough stone rim of an underground shaft entrance in the old quarter of Zonguldak, glistening under the low angle of midsummer sunlight. A weathered face emerges from the darkness, skin mapped with deep lines and dust, illuminated by a sharp band of warm edge light that traces the jawline and cheekbone. The miner's eyes are fixed forward with quiet intensity, framed tightly against the dark interior of the mine. Thin ice crystals rest on the collar of a heavy coat and the brim of a cap, contrasting the cold texture of the winter-like frost with the sudden heat of the setting sun. The light catches a single droplet of sweat freezing instantly on the forehead.
