Deep in the night, a wet Wellington street reflects the amber glow of streetlights on the asphalt. A concrete bridge pier base dominates the midground, swirling with muddy floodwater that churns against its foundation, evidence of recent heavy rain. Nearby, a discarded newspaper stack lies flattened and sodden on the curb, its ink bleeding into the pavement. A lone blue and white porcelain jar sits precariously on a nearby windowsill, untouched by the storm below. The raw, unpolished reality of the city after dark, with no people visible, only the mix of water, concrete, and urban debris under the dim, artificial light.
