Concrete dust and sheets of printer paper soften the edges of a metal tire thumper rack standing inside a chilled distribution bay in Carúpano. Deep night darkness presses against the high windows where faint ambient light filters across the floor, illuminating layers of shrink-wrapped pallets that recede into the distance. The metal frame of the rack gleams with a cold sheen, reflecting the overhead fluorescent glow and the glossy surfaces of stacked cargo. Shrink wrap crinkles tightly around dark shapes, creating sharp highlights against the gray concrete floor. Dust motes hang suspended in the beam of light falling from the window, settling on the paper strips taped to the rack's vertical bars. One strip of paper flutters slightly near the bottom edge, caught in a draft from the open bay door.
