Deep shadows swallow the wet season market stalls in Mogadishu while rim light traces the curved edges of colorful kites. Thick, dramatic clouds roll overhead, blocking the moon and leaving the ground in relative darkness. Only the outlines of the fabric kites catch the faint silver glow from above, highlighting their vibrant reds and blues against the black sky. The wet pavement reflects these sharp edges of light. People stand motionless in the gloom, their forms defined only by the light catching their shoulders. The scene holds a quiet weight, with the kites suspended in the heavy, rain-laden air. One kite tail hangs limp against the dark clouds.
