Bright daylight floods the high interior of a ceremonial hall in Ankara, transforming the space into a bustling midday food court. Low-hanging clouds outside the tall windows diffuse the sun into a soft, even glow that illuminates rows of vendor stalls. Colorful ceramic tiles line the walls, against the white plaster arches overhead. Wooden tables are crowded with colorful plates of kebabs, fresh bread, and steaming tea glasses. People move between the stalls, their casual summer clothes suggesting the late season heat. The polished stone floor reflects the movement of feet and the hanging lanterns. A stack of copper trays rests on a counter near the entrance, catching the light.
