The pre-dawn light of nautical dawn casts a cool, blue-grey hue over a Nairobi street corner where a chain-link substation fence stands prominently in the mid-ground. Beads of morning dew rest on the metal links, catching the faint ambient light near yellow warning placards that mark the electrical boundary. Beyond the fence, the rough texture of red laterite soil and scattered scrubland is visible, at the base of the scene in the local geography. One chestnut tree with spiky husks scattered on the ground anchors the natural elements, while the distant silhouette of a radiotelescope dish rises above the horizon, blending industrial infrastructure with the quiet, early morning stillness of the Kenyan landscape.
