Under the deep indigo wash of a Budapest blue hour, a yellow municipal work van sits idling near the Chain Bridge’s stone abutment, its rear doors swung open to reveal a chaotic inventory of cleaning supplies. A white mop leans precariously against a stack of translucent chemical canisters, while tool hooks on the interior wall hold a tangle of heavy-duty rakes and scrub brushes, their metal heads catching the faint, cool reflection of the Danube’s surface.
