Thick autumn mist swallows the gravel of a Lithuanian checkpoint lane while faint ground glow illuminates the predawn darkness. A military dispatch strip-map drawer stands low in the frame, its metal surface reflecting the starlight. Beside the operator, a passenger train car sits embedded directly into the earth, its steel windows and riveted panels merging seamlessly with the fog. The train's undercarriage rests on the same muddy ground as the checkpoint barriers. Late autumn leaves rest on the rusted railings of the impossible carriage. Shadows stretch long across the wet pavement. The drawer's handle gleams against the dark uniform, anchoring the surreal presence of the train in the operational stillness.
