Under the flat, diffused light of an overcast midday, a narrow aisle in a Oaxacan market hums with quiet industry. A shopkeeper in a faded blue shirt leans over a low counter, his attention fixed on arranging bright purple hibiscus flowers into a bundle. Beside the blooms, a small white table fan spins lazily, its grille catching the ambient gray light. Behind the counter, shelves of worn wood show deep nicks and scratches from years of use, holding stacks of woven palm mats folded into neat squares. One straw hat rests on a stool near the entrance, its brim bent from wear. Glass tumblers line the edge of the counter, reflecting the muted sky above.
