Men at Evening Light
A narrow alley in the Medina of Tunis glows with the amber spill of sodium streetlights against pale stucco walls. Two young men sit on low wooden crates outside a closed metal shutter, their faces illuminated by the harsh, directional beam from a nearby lantern. One holds a battered orange basketball, its surface scuffed and peeling, while the other gestures with a plastic cup of sweet mint tea. Behind them, a rusted iron gate is pinned shut with heavy wooden clothespins, a makeshift lock for the evening.
