Melons at Blue Hour in in Muscat, Oman

Melons at Blue Hour

by Kane Daniel

Blue hour light washes over a cramped Muscat spice stall, where the air hangs heavy with cumin and dried lime. A vendor in a white dish towel wipes sweat from his brow while arranging bright yellow melons and deep red dates in a wooden fruit bowl. The stall is cluttered with brass canister sets and translucent apothecary jars filled with saffron threads. A nickel latch on a locked wooden chest catches the fading streetlamp glow, against the rough plaster walls. In the background, blurred figures move past, their shapes softened by the dimming light, showing bustling evening commerce against the cool, darkening sky.
