Measuring Blueprints in Copenhagen
by Jolene Kirk
Sunlight slants through the tall, narrow sash window of a historic Nyhavn townhouse, illuminating a cluttered drafting table where a carpenter pauses mid-measurement. A metal measuring tape unspools across blueprints, its yellow blade catching the clear afternoon glare, while a small porcelain jar of glue sits nearby, its lid slightly askew. Outside, the window frame, painted in traditional Copenhagen red, is pushed open, allowing a sheer white curtain to lift and billow gently against the glass, revealing the cobblestone street below. A quiet moment of craftsmanship, with the rough texture of the wood table contrasting against the smooth, cool ceramic and the bright, metallic tape, all lit by the crisp, directional light of a Danish autumn afternoon.
