First rays of sunrise paint the sky in pale gold above the red-tiled roofs of Hanoi. A pack of marathon runners threads down a wide avenue running parallel to the Red River. Their athletic silhouettes stretch across the wet asphalt, legs pumping with rhythmic urgency. The Dutch angle tilt emphasizes the forward motion against the calm, clear morning sky. Shadows lengthen across the pavement, casting sharp lines from the distant buildings. Sweat glistens on foreheads, catching the low light. The dry season air leaves the air crisp and clear, with no haze obscuring the distant skyline. The lead runner's feet strike the ground near a puddle reflecting the pale dawn sky.
