Leather Apron in Gwangju Market Hall
by Alec Hubbard
Honeyed evening light spills across the rough grain of a worn leather apron hanging against a weathered brick wall inside a Gwangju market hall. The leather, darkened by years of use, catches the low-angle sunset, creating warm amber pools on the adjacent concrete floor. Soft lamplight begins to settle into the deep corners of the space, casting long, gentle shadows that define the apron's heavy stitching and metal buckles. The turn of seasons is visible in the dust motes floating in the shafts of light and the subtle coolness in the air suggested by the muted tones of the surrounding stalls. Negative space frames the solitary garment, emphasizing its texture and the quiet stillness of the shop after hours. A final reflection of the setting sun glimmers on a nearby metal tool rack, anchoring the scene in the fading day.
