A misty dawn softens the geometry of a Chennai street, where a narrow concrete balcony juts from a weathered stucco facade. Below, a woman in a cotton saree hangs laundry on a rusted wire line, the wet fabric heavy and dark against the pale gray sky. A terracotta pot holding a resilient bougainvillea sits on the balcony ledge, its magenta blooms piercing the haze. The street below is empty, save for a single parked scooter and the distant silhouette of a temple gopuram fading into the fog. Soap streaks mark the tiled wall of a neighboring house, evidence of morning cleaning rituals. The light is diffused and cool, casting long, faint shadows that stretch across the wet pavement.
