Late Morning Light on Dog

Bright late morning light spills through the canopy of a mature Oregon maple, casting dappled, shifting shadows across the gray concrete sidewalk in front of a corner store in the Alberta Arts District. A teenager in a faded band t-shirt balances on a worn skateboard, one foot planted on the tail while the other kicks gently against the pavement for momentum. Beside the curb, a blue cooler jug sits open, condensation beading on its sides, next to a small, scruffy terrier waiting patiently on a leash. The casual rhythm of a neighborhood walk, with the mix of sun and shadow adding texture to the urban landscape.
