A wet cobblestone street in Quebec City reflects the amber glow of a single lantern hanging from a wrought-iron bracket against the backdrop of a Gothic stone bridge spanning the St. The night sky is pitch black above the historic stone arches, showing the deep shadows cast by the architecture. Mist rests on the river surface below, softening the base of the ancient masonry. A few distant windows in nearby stone buildings emit faint light, against the dark, damp pavement. The quiet, rainy atmosphere of the old city, with the lantern providing the primary source of illumination in the deep night.
