Bright, clear winter sunlight floods the interior of a modest Perth apartment kitchen, casting sharp, geometric shadows across pale linoleum tiles. A stainless steel sink sits empty beside a white plastic dish drainer holding a few drying plates, while a damp tea towel hangs over a chrome rail. On the wooden counter, a needle case rests open with thread loops spilling out, next to a wine opener and a half-folded cardigan. Through the window, boxwood shrubs in a concrete planter catch the high noon light, against the smooth glass and cold metal of the domestic workspace.
