Mist rests on the corrugated iron roof of a weatherboard worker’s cottage in Collingwood, diffusing the pale dawn light into a cool, blue-grey haze. Through a grimy kitchen window, the interior reveals a lived-in stillness: a chipped blue enamel sink holds a coffee cup, its rim stained with dried drips of black coffee. A metal trivet sits askew on the Formica counter, next to a discarded key blank and a crumpled envelope. Outside, the fog softens the sharp lines of the neighboring red-brick chimney stacks, while the wet pavement reflects the dull grey sky.
