Ivy Vine in Quebec City

A wide environmental view shows the rugged texture of Quebec City’s historic stone fortifications under a flat, overcast winter noon sky. The foreground is dominated by a heavy, rusted iron gate, its surface pitted and cold, leading toward the distant, snow-dusted rooftops of the Lower Town. One, bare ivy vine clings stubbornly to the rough masonry of a nearby wall, its dark tendrils contrasting sharply with the pale, salt-stained stone. The scene is devoid of people, showing the stillness and the biting chill of the Canadian winter. The light is diffuse, casting soft, indistinct shadows that highlight the depth of the carvings in the granite blocks.
