Hydrangeas in Quito at Late Morning Light
by Diego Monroe
Sunlight floods the narrow stone corridor of a colonial stairwell in Quito, highlighting the rough texture of aged stucco and the polished brass of a heavy door handle. A local resident, partially visible in motion, pauses to adjust a bright blue plastic watering can resting on the step, its surface reflecting the harsh midday glare. Beside it, a cluster of vibrant green hydrangeas spills over a terracotta rim, their petals slightly wilted from the heat. The domestic rhythm of the city, where modern utility meets historic architecture, with the stark white walls contrasting against the deep shadows of the upper landing.
