Hull Construction at The Late Morning Light in Essaouira

A craftsman planes a curved wooden hull of a traditional felucca boat in the open-air workshop of Essaouira's historic Skala de la Ville. Sunlight cuts a sharp stripe across the metal latch of the heavy workshop door, illuminating the sawdust hanging in the air. The worker, wearing a faded blue shirt, focuses on shaping the cedar planks with a hand plane. In the background, the blue and white painted walls of the rampart contrast with the warm tones of the timber. A simple sewing tool rests on a nearby bench, unused but present. The enduring maritime tradition of this coastal Moroccan city, with the Atlantic Ocean visible in the distance beyond the stone fortifications.
