First light after rain washes over a Cape Town balcony, where wet slate tiles reflect the pale gray sky. A rusted iron railing frames the view of Table Mountain’s mist-shrouded peak in the distance. On the damp concrete ledge, a cluster of household items rests near a potted geranium: a white porcelain jar with chipped glaze, a glass sugar jar holding loose tea leaves, and a wooden clothes brush with stiff bristles. Water droplets rest on the fibers of a braided rug draped over the railing, catching the soft, diffused light.
