Historic Door in Quebec City

by Tonya Rosales

Rain-slicked granite paving stones of Rue du Petit-Champlain reflect the soft, diffused gray of the early morning sky, leading toward the heavy oak door of a historic stone building. A brass door handle, polished by decades of wet hands, catches the faint ambient light, against the rough, lichen-spotted masonry. To the right, a wooden deck chair, overturned and secured against the wind, rests near a shop entrance, its fabric damp and heavy. The scene is quiet, devoid of crowds, showing the texture of wet stone against aged wood and the cool, metallic sheen of the hardware. The light is flat and even, typical of a post-rain dawn, highlighting the dampness on every surface without harsh shadows.
