A narrow shaft of afternoon gold light cuts across the table, creating a sharp contrast with the deep shadows of the late night. Warm lamplight settles into the corners, pooling against the walls. Layers of depth recede into the distance, showing rows of empty chairs and shadowed doorways. The late spring setting is visible through the stillness of the papers and the sharp edges of the wooden furniture. A pen lies beside a stack of papers, its metal tip catching the harsh overhead glare.
