First light falls through the heavy rain-soaked air, casting a cool, diffused blue over a weathered shotgun house porch in the Tremé neighborhood. A rusted iron railing, slick with recent moisture, frames the view of a narrow alleyway where a neighbor has left a single terracotta bowl upside down to dry near the door. Beside it, a small cluster of potted herbs, their leaves glistening with droplets, sits on a chipped wooden step. The wet concrete reflects the dull gray sky, while the peeling green paint of the house siding adds a touch of faded color.
