Pale dawn light slips across the tiled floor of a cafe in Van, illuminating the back of a gymnast seated near a rack of balance boards. The athlete wears a dark training leotard, their posture still and focused as visible breath or mist rises from their mouth in the cool morning air. Shadows stretch quietly along the cream-colored walls, defining the space between the wooden furniture and the equipment. Dust motes hang suspended in the thin beams of light that cut through the room. The dry season air leaves the surfaces clear and sharp. The steam curls upward, dissolving into the quiet haze near the ceiling, while the gymnast's hands rest lightly on their knees, gripping the edge of a white ceramic cup.
