A summer evening in Izmir shows a street-side meze stand where glossy enamel trays of grilled squid and pickled vegetables gleam under the warm glow of a hanging filament bulb. Cracked painted stucco walls of the narrow alley provide a textured backdrop, against the smooth, reflective surfaces of the food containers. A local vendor, wearing a faded apron, uses a long serving spoon to arrange the catch of the day, his hands moving with practiced efficiency. In the background, the faint spray of a public fountain mists the air, catching the ambient light from nearby shop signs.
